No Fireworks, Just Fire: July 4th at Deviant Libation
This past week, the 4th of July Independence Day celebration occurred. Did I shoot the local fireworks event? No! This year, I shot a fantastic lineup at Deviant Libation to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. And what a lineup it was: Arrive Alive, Piss on Christ, Send All, The Path of Increased Indifference, and Burned at the Stake, featuring a special intro by Doom Machine! Oh wait! There’s more… Also appearing and celebrating the 4th with us at Deviant Libation was Daddy Baphy! He was sporting red, white, and blue and riding a dinosaur.
Out in the courtyard, a lot of great vendors showed up to sell their wares. It was here that I was finally able to acquire one of Reverend Thorn’s burning church pieces. It’s a piece I would later take into my small studio to produce this dark photographic work.
As the week progressed, we had Open Mic night—a Rented Technology staple that continuously puts the spotlight on all types of local talent. Once again, I put the camera down to take my position behind the mic and deliver another poetic work I wrote. And, once again, there are no photos of it. You just had to be there to experience the moving words.
But the news doesn't stop there. This week I was also contacted by one of the bands I photographed at Deviant Libation, requesting a live photoshoot. I would love to tell you more, but you will just have to wait for the band to release them once I finish up the post-processing work.
