A Weekend at Deviant Libation: From Metal to Ministry

There is a specific kind of magic that happens within the walls of Deviant Libation. It is a venue that doesn’t just host events; it fosters a community. This past weekend offered a perfect cross-section of that energy. Moving from the high-octane intensity of a Saturday metal showcase to the intimate reflections of a "Sinday" afternoon.

The Saturday Showcase: Heavy Energy

The energy on Saturday night was visceral. Documenting local talent is a cornerstone of what I do, and this lineup provided plenty of inspiration. We kicked things off with Ephemora, whose set provided a heavy foundation for the night. They were followed by the relentless drive of Dead Angels, a performance that was worthy of the Tampa music scene and is a good example of local talent.

The momentum continued to build with Kill Proof, who took the stage just before the finale. Their performance was the perfect bridge to the night's climax, keeping the crowd's energy at a fever pitch.

The night culminated with Cut.Stitch.Repeat!. In a true testament to professional grit, the band moved forward with their headlining set despite the absence of their drummer. Celebrating the release of their new EP, they delivered a performance that blended industrial, goth, and heavy metal into something unforgettable. It was a reminder that the essence of a performance isn't just about the components, but the raw intent behind them.

Sinday Service: The Art of the Soloist

As the dust settled from Saturday, Sunday brought a shift in tempo. The "Sinday Service" sessions offer a more stripped-back look at the craft. I had the opportunity to observe and capture two distinct solo performances: Jonas Van den Bossche and Derek Dunn.

Both artists, armed only with acoustic guitars and their voices, commanded the room in a way that felt entirely different from the night before! Proving that "heavy" music is as much about emotional weight as it is about volume.

Community & Compassion: Pound Puppies Night

Beyond the music, the weekend also focused on giving back. The Pound Puppies Night fundraiser for Repawz Academy transformed the space into a hub of community support.

From the outdoor market to the pre-show buzz, the atmosphere was light and purposeful. Capturing these moments, the vendors, the supporters, and the shared goal of helping local animals, highlights the broader impact a venue like Deviant Libation has on our neighborhood.

"Observing these shifts in energy—from the distortion of a headlining metal set to the quiet resonance of an acoustic guitar—is exactly why I love to document these spaces. It is about being present for the raw energy of the moment."

Final Thoughts

Thank you to Deviant Libation for hosting such a diverse array of talent and for allowing me to document these moments. To the bands, the artists, and the community members who make these events possible: keep creating.
